Reflections script - Act 1 (The Young Riders)

FADE IN

1. Ext. Open Terrain - morning

Camera pulls out to reveal two riders racing their way through the open terrain. One rider passes the other and the hoots and hollers of victory are heard. The two riders slow down their pace riding side by side.

JIMMY
Damnit, Lou. Remind me never to race you again.

LOU
Is Jimmy Hickok turnin’ yella? If you keep trying, you never know. One day you may come close to beating me.

JIMMY
These long rides are really starting to get to me.

LOU
At least they aren’t sending us alone.

JIMMY gives no response.

LOU
What, am I not good enough company for you?

JIMMY
These races don’t exactly make it fun.

LOU
Only because you keep losing.

In the distance the sounds of gunshots can be heard. The two riders kick their horses into gear in the direction of the shots. Camera zooms in to reveal a dead body and an abandoned horse. Upon arriving at the scene Lou and Jimmy dismount approaching the body. Jimmy roles the body over to reveal a badge on the chest of the dead man.

LOU
Whoever shot him couldn’t have gotten very far.

JIMMY
I don’t see any other tracks. They’re probably close. Be careful.

Both riders un-holster their revolvers and head out to look in opposite directions. We follow Jimmy as he searches over the terrain with his pistol out in front of him. He passes brush and a few trees. Upon passing the final tree Jimmy freezes and the cocking of a gun can be heard. Camera pulls out to reveal a young girl in a saloon dress pointing a six shooter at his back.

GIRL
Drop it!

Jimmy drops his weapon and places his hands up.

FADE OUT
